LA VANGUARDIA : BARÇA PLAYERS COULD HAVE SALARIES HIT DUE TO CORONAVIRUS
Barcelona will hold an extraordinary board meeting on Friday, as first revealed by SPORT, to study and discuss a plan of action to help deal with the financial repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic.
Among the points up for debate is how to reduce costs during this period where there will be no matches. That could lead to a salary reduction for employees. That could even mean the temporary laying off of members of staff.
The players feature among the club's employees and could also be hit. According to La Vanguardia, Barça are thinking about asking their stars to reduce their wages during the coming weeks.
Remember that the club's wage bill accounts for 61 percent of the club's budget for the 2019/20 season.
They pay around 507 million euros annually in salaries and around 135 million in amortisations. It's for that reason that the board may have to take drastic measures to ensure the loss of income caused by coronavirus doesn't hit the club too hard.
