FRANK LAMPARD HAS CONFIRMED THE CLUB ARE IN TALKS TO OFFER SCARLET TARIQ LAMPTEY A NEW DEAL

FRANK LAMPARD has confirmed the club are in talks to offer starlet Tariq Lamptey a new deal.

The 19-year-old right-back made his senior debut for Chelsea when he was introduced in the 59th minute of their 2-1 win over Arsenal on Sunday.

Lamptey's current deal at the Blues expires at the end of the season but the gaffer admits talks are taking place to extend that.

He told reporters after the game: “We'll see. He's talking with the club and hopefully he feels a bit of love from today as we've parachuted him in.

“He was actually on his Christmas break when we called him in yesterday. He trained and then played.

“I'd seen him when I was doing my coaching badges and you do a lot of hours with the academy and youth team. I saw him train a lot and I know he has a different dimension as a right-sided wing back.

“He has pace, low centre of gravity and can go by people. Of course he wants to work on his end product and all the last bits.”
CHELSEA debutant Tariq Lamptey was hailed as a game-changing substitute in their 2-1 late turnaround win at Arsenal.

Frank Lampard began with a 3-4-3 formation that required an early switch with the Blues a goal down.

Jorginho replaced full-back Emerson to initially move Fikayo Tomori to the right-hand side of defence.

But bfore the hour mark, Lampard had seen enough and introduced natural right-back Lamptey for fellow academy product Tomori .

The ensuing period saw Chelsea go ahead thanks to goals from Jorginho and Tammy Abraham, leading to fans highlighting Lamptey's introduction as key.

The 19-year-old finished the game with impressive stats, completing all four of his passes and two tackles.

After the final whistle, Blues supporters paid tribute to how the London-born England youth international coped at the Emirates.

One called Lamptey a “game changer”.

And Brian remarked on Twitter: “Pressure?!? Lamptey eats pressure for breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper and snacktime.”

Harmeet added: “A proud moment when you see an amazing student you taught make their debut against Arsenal playing against the likes of Aubemeyang and show blistering pace when they came on. Tariq Lamptey…remember the name.”

Another supporter commented: “We have two generational talents at RB in Reece and Lamptey. That’s unbelievable.”
