MANCHESTER UNITED TRANSFER BOOST AS REAL MADRID 'MAKE DECISION ' ON ERLING HAALAND

Manchester United are keeping tabs on Haaland after missing out on the striker in the January transfer window, but La Liga giants Real were expected to make a move this summer

Manchester United have been handed a transfer boost as Real Madrid have reportedly made a decision on Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.

Haaland was United's top target in January, but the Red Devils pulled out of talks to sign the Norwegian hotshot from Red Bull Salzburg.

Instead he joined Dortmund for a cut-price £18million, and the 19-year-old continued his hot streak, scoring 12 goals in just seven starts for the Bundesliga side before football was brought to a halt by coronavirus.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still believed to be a fan of Haaland, who has fired 40 goals in all competitions this season for Salzburg and Dortmund.

However, Madrid were expected to bid for the striker this summer, leaving Red Devils fans thinking they had missed out on the chance to see the hotshot at Old Trafford week in, week out.

But the La Liga giants have now decided to end their interest in the teenager, according to Mail.

The publication says Real have been put off by the fees they would have to pay Haaland's agent, Mino Raiola, with the Spanish club feeling the financial impact of the coronavirus crisis.

And that could leave the way for United to make a move for Haaland at the end of next season - although other clubs are likely to join the race if he continues his goalscoring exploits once football resumes following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have also been linked with a move for Haaland's Dortmund teammate Jadon Sancho - although Gary Neville has warned people are getting "carried away" with the hype around the 20-year-old England winger.

"To be honest, Jadon Sancho in this moment of time… we get carried away," Neville told Sky Sports.

"Let’s be clear, Jadon Sancho is a talent, but we can’t start putting him in the category with world stars who are winning European cups and World Cups regularly, season in season out."
