"I UNDERESTIMATED THE PROBLEMS IN GHANA FOOTBALL BUT..." – NAA ODOFOLEY

Member of the Ghana Football Association’s Normalization Committee, Naa Odofoley Nortey says she was overwhelmed by the magnitude of work discovered by the committee when they began the process to normalize Ghana football.

After Anas’s Number12 documentary which brought Ghana football to its knees, Naa Odofoley and three others were appointed by FIFA and the government to steer the affairs of the association and restore its lost image.

Speaking on GhanaWeb’s Sports Check on her experience with Ghana football, the legal practitioner admitted that despite having appreciable level of knowledge on footballing issues in the country, she was taken by surprise after discovering the dirt in the system.

She gave a detailed narration of how she ended up on the committee which contradicts reports that her appointment onto the committee was politically motivated.

“A gentleman from FIFA came looking for me with Michael Oti Adjei and after asking a few people, I said why not. I took it up because I like challenges and the rest is history. I spoke to my husband and few football people before accepting the job”.

She revealed that she was one of the people who queued to watch the Anas documentary and enjoyed a good relationship with ousted GFA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi.

“I wasn’t totally ignorant about football. Actually I was one of the people who queued to watch the Anas video so I knew what was going on. What a lot of people didn’t realize is that I knew Nyantakyi quite well and its sad what happened to him and I wouldn’t wish that on anyone”.

“I knew what was going on in the country and I was sufficiently woke. What I perhaps underestimated was the enormity of the work. That one I underestimated and also the whole system, I kind of didn’t expect things to be the way they were”, she said.
