CALLUM HUDSON-ODOI SIGNS NEW 5-YEAR CHELSEA CONTRACT AS FRANK LAMPARD BELIEVES HE WILL BECOME ‘WORLD CLASS '

Callum Hudson-Odoi signs new five-year Chelsea contract as Frank Lampard believes he will become ‘world class’.

Callum Hudson-Odoi has signed a new contract with Chelsea, keeping him at the club until 2024.

The highly-rated teenager, whose current deal expires next summer, said it was an ‘amazing feeling’ to finally put pen to paper.

Hudson-Odoi has been sidelined for the last five months with injury

“It’s been a long wait but it’s done now and I’m really happy about that,” he told chelseafc.com.

“I’ve been a Chelsea player since I was eight and this is the right club for me to be at.

‘I want to lift as many trophies as possible, win as many games as possible and contribute to as many goals as I can as well. As a team, we just want to work hard to achieve the best results we can. I’m delighted everything has been agreed and now I’m just looking forward to properly getting back.’

The 18-year-old frustrated by the lack of first-team opportunities under Maurizio Sarri last season and wanted to complete a move to Bayern Munich, who were seriously interested in securing his services.

The Bundesliga club are thought to have made three bids for the teenager in the January transfer window, with Hudson-Odoi allegedly handing in a transfer request.

The arrival of Frank Lampard as manager, though, looks like it has convinced the winger to stay, with the former midfielder giving multiple opportunities to the club’s best youth players.

Hudson-Odoi has spent the last few months sidelined by an Achilles injury, but recently returned to action and played in a Chelsea youth team game against Brighton, coming off after an hour suggesting he is almost ready for the first team again.

Chelsea academy products, Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham have thrived under Frank Lampard this season and could soon be joined in the first team by a fit again Hudson-Odoi

Hudson-Odoi has been at the club since he was eight and Lampard believes he can become a world beater at the Premier League side.

“I have seen Callum come through and he’s a fantastic talent,” he said.

“He is going to be central for us on the pitch and that is the opportunity in front of him now.

“There are things as a young player that he will want to improve but he can be central to this team and for England. I want to work with him, I want to drive him forward and I want to improve him as a player.

“Callum can show, right here at Chelsea, the club he came through the academy at, that he is going to be a world-class player because I truly believe that.”
